Mac Pro 4,1 32 GB RAM, Yosemite, Nvidia GeForce GT 120 GPU. Trying to use an action in Photoshop CC that requires the OilPaint filter and OpenCL in order to work. I have both the latest Nvidia driver and latest CUDA along with Nvidia Driver Manager installed. Photoshop Preferences Performance Shows the GT 120 installed and Graphics Processor is checked.

Hi i have just bought a new NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro and i am going to try installing this card in my 2008 mac pro because i have herd this has worked in the 08 models. Is there any driver that you need or know of any websites where i can get them. I have found some drivers that are work PC but i would need them.
However, clicking Advanced setting show Use Open CL and Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate Computation grayed out.I've switched from the Nvidia Web Driver to the internal Mac Nvidia driver but that doesn't help. Quote C(-)risI think this needs to say 1 not 0.clgpu0.CUDASupported=0I'm betting you need a better video card. The GTX 685 is the only native card that will allow you to see the boot options. Otherwise there are flashed versions from MacVideoCards of better cards. You need to check and see what cards are CUDA supported for your OS and CS combination.I saw that as well and thought the same. 1 probably equals true and 0 equals false. Still I would think the GT 120 does run CUDA ( the Photoshop Preference Performance lists the card as GT120 Open GL Engine ) and Photoshop can use CUDA or OpenCL.Maybe I'll trash the preferences just to check.JoeM.
Well, never mind: this from Adobe's site:Photoshop graphics processor (GPU) card FAQUnsupported card seriesThe following card series are no longer being tested and are not officially supported in Photoshop:AMD/ATI 100, 200, 3000, and 4000 seriesnVidia GeForce 7000, 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300 seriesOlder Intel速 HD Graphics (for example 2000, 3000, 4000 series) cardsSome GL functionality may be available for these cards, but newer features won't work.To use OpenCL acceleration, your system must support OpenCL v1.1 or laterThanks all for the help.JoeM. The ATI 5870 here works well in a similar set up (although this one was bumped up to 5,1 last year). The card worked fine when it was running on 4,1. In combination with your GT120, you could easily run a few monitors, too.
You might find a 5870 used for about $200, though it was a little more than that new a few years back.Cheese graters are great, but they're getting a little long in the tooth - and parts/cards, are a little harder to find - and a little more expensive now than they used to be. This has been such a solid machine for all my uses since I got it in 2010 as a refurb but I realize it's days are numbered if I want to keep moving forward. I thought about grabbing a 5870 but when I realized that this 4,1 MP can only do Open CL 1.0 and I need at least 1.1 to use the action I figured it's not necessary. However I have Adobe Photoshop CS 6 and there's a version of the action for it so if it only requires 1.0 I still may be able to use it.Luckily I have a newer 12 core MP at work so I can use the action there.JoeM. Quote AllGoldDoes PS CS6 for sure not run on OS 10.10?
What about 10.9 or 10.11?Ok, wait a minute. For some reason I thought you were running Yosemite, but now I don't see the OS mentioned at all except for switching to Snow Leopard to run CS6.Anyway, I wouldn't think you'd need to revert all the way back to SL to run CS6. As a matter of fact, in my experience, CS3 is perfectly happy in Mavericks or El Capitan. You are right. I have 3 different boot drives in the MP.
One with, Yosemite for my current design work with Adobe CC, Mountain Lion (for audio work With PT 11 HD) and SL with legacy apps which include Adobe CS 5.5 and 6. I just booted into SL because CS6 was there.JoeM.
CUDA Application Support:In order to run macOS Applications that leverage the CUDA architecture of certain NVIDIA graphics cards, users will need to download and install a compatible CUDA driver. This driver includes the new NVIDIA Driver Manager preference pane, as well as an optional menu bar item for quick access to the preference pane and basic functions. The preference pane can be accessed normally through the System Preferences. It requires the user to click on the padlock icon and enter an Administrator password to make changes, and contains the following functionality:GRAPHICS DRIVER TAB: Within this tab, the user can switch between the NVIDIA Web Driver and the default NVIDIA graphics driver that is included with macOS v10.13 (17A405). If the user switches between drivers, they must click the Restart button for changes to take effect.ECC TAB: Within this tab, the user can enable or disable ECC functionality on supported graphics cards.
The user will see a list of their system’s PCI-E slots and any devices installed in them. If a device supports ECC, the user will be able to check the Enable Error Correcting Codes box next to the list. If the device does not support ECC then the box will be grayed out.
Once the user makes changes to ECC, they will be required to restart the system.NOTE: Currently, the only NVIDIA graphics card that supports ECC functionality is the NVIDIA Quadro K5000 for Mac. Enabling ECC requires a portion of the graphics card’s usable memory size and bandwidth.
In the Graphics/Displays section of your System Information, you may notice the “VRAM (Total)” amount of your NVIDIA Quadro K5000 drops from 4096 MB to 3584 MB when ECC is enabled. This is normal.UPDATES TAB: This tab shows the version number of the NVIDIA Web Driver that is currently installed on the system and also allows the user to check for updates online. By clicking the Check Now button, the NVIDIA Driver Manager will ping NVIDIA’s master server to see if there is a newer version of the NVIDIA Web Driver available. There are also checkboxes for the user to allow the NVIDIA Driver Manager to check automatically for updates and to download them when available.
If a new NVIDIA Web Driver is downloaded automatically, the user will be notified when it’s ready to be installed. Automatic checking is on by default.MENU BAR ITEM AND UNINSTALLER: The NVIDIA Driver Manager also includes a checkbox to toggle a menu bar item on and off, and a button to open an Uninstaller app.
